The City of St. Louis issued several hundred thousand tax bills in November for:

  • Personal Property Taxes
       (autos, boats, etc.).
  • Real Estate Taxes
(houses, flats, commercial buildings, land, etc.).

    Payment is due December 31.

Some of the Consequences of Non-Payment:

Late penalties and interest will be assessed if taxes are unpaid after December 31.

City employees may be subject to dismissal for failure to pay property taxes, according to Department of Personnel Administrative Regulation No. 137.

After three years of non-payment of real estate tax, the City will file a Land Tax Suit.

Approximately one year after filing the tax suit, real property is auctioned by the Sheriff at one of four Tax Sales annually.

If not sold then, it become property of the Land Reutilization Authority.
