Public Education

 The St. Louis Fire Department offers education on a number of topics related to the department's duties. There are classes or presentations available relating to fire safety and emergency medical services.
 

Community Outreach Programs

Smoke Alarm Installation Program - This is one of the department's oldest programs, beginning in partnership with Barnes Hospital and the Burn Care Support Group in 1984. Under this program, the department installs lithium based smoke alarms that are designed to last for ten years without battery changes. The program is currently funded through a grant provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Fire Safety House Program (Safe House) - The Safe House is a mobile fire safety house that is set up at different events throughout the city. The purpose of the program is to instruct the general population on fire safety topics, such as: smoke alarms, home escape plans, using 911, and a host of other fire safety topics.

Fire Safety Brochures (also available in Bosnian, Vietnamese and Spanish)

Fire Safety Presentations -  This program is where we will send your neighborhood fire company out to talk with your group about just about any fire safety topic. Pamphlets are usually available for groups of less than 100.

Fire Extinguisher Training -  This training is for the business industry and is handled by the Fire Marshal's Staff.  contact number - 289-1960

 

Careers in the Fire Service - This program offers a brief synopsis of the careers available on the St. Louis Fire Department, as well as the training necessary to successfully compete for a job opening . The careers include: dispatcher, emergency medical technician, firefighter, and paramedic.

CPR Training - this is a non-credentialing course offered free of charge. Credentialing courses are available for a fee. contact number - 289-1938

Basic first aid -  includes airway management, bleeding control and splinting contact number - 289-1938

Are You O.K.?® (RUOK) Program - This is a telephone reassurance program for elderly or disabled individuals that are living independently in the City of St. Louis. The automated system calls your home 7 days a week, to make sure you are okay. If we do not get an answer after 3 attempts, an emergency vehicle will be dispatched to your home to again make sure you are okay. This program is offered free of charge. Love Seat Program - This program is designed to teach and assist parents with properly installing a child safety seat, call 289-1988.

You request should include the date and time of your event, the number and age group of the participants, what resource you are requesting, and a contact person.
