St. Louis Community Information Network
Email Discussion Lists
Email discussion lists or electronic mailing lists allow people to use email to communicate with others that have similar interests. There are interest groups for almost every topic, with memberships ranging from the few to the thousands.
Participants send e-mail messages to a central source, and their messages are then forwarded to all other group members. When a person subscribes to a list, their email address is added to the mailing list of email addresses, and they will start to receive messages from the list. Choosing to send a message is at each member's discretion, though it is often wise to 'listen' to the discussion for a time before jumping in with contributions.
