Domain Name Registration Information

Not-for-profit organizations with web pages on the St. Louis CIN have asked to have unique domain names. Although the St. Louis CIN cannot offer virtual domain names we can point to possible low-cost solutions for organizations that want a unique domain name and still keep their web site on the St. Louis CIN at no cost. Organizations can:

1. Select a company that offers both domain registration and rederaction services for a minimal yearly fee, or

2. Register their own domain name and select a company that offers rederection services

Rederection.net is an example of a company that offers both domain name registration and rederection services for a modest yearly fee. More information is available on their web site at http://www.redirection.net/faq.html.

If your organization prefers to register its own domain name and not host the site of CIN, it needs to contact InterNIC (the domain name registrar) at http://rs.internic.net/. See the InterNIC web site for current fees.

InterNIC will request you to submit a primary and secondary DNS settings. The DNS setting you need to provide are those of the rederection company that will host your unique domain name (i.e., rediretion.net http://www.redirection.net/)

Once you have registered the domain name you need to contact a company that offer rederection services like rediretion.net and ask them to redirect the new domain address to the server where the information is actually hosted (in your case the St. Louis CIN server).
