Welcome to Bevo, USA
A Place to Live, to Work, to Shop
The Bevo Neighborhood is a well-defined neighborhood bounded on the east by the railroad tracks; on the south by Holly Hills, Carondelet Park, Christy and Christy Park; on the west by South Kingshighway and on the north by Chippewa.
The Bevo Area is located in
Central South St. Louis.
The common cultural and religious
heritage of the area residents gave
the neighborhood a stability which
caused it not only to resist but
reverse the problems which
plagued so many areas in the
years after WWII. A key factor in the neighborhood's continued success was the neighborhood residents' organization into improvement associations
and their formation of the umbrella neighborhood corporation, Bevo Area Community Improvement Corporation (Bevo 2001) in 1972.
The Bevo neighborhood is one of the City's best maintained. This is displayed by the well-groomed appearance that most of the neighborhood's residences have. The housing stock is a mixture of brick and frame bungalows, Dutch-style homes, larger homes in the Holly Hills neighborhood, some larger multi-family structures and two and some four family flats.
